If we could rename metrics in freeform tables as well, would be great. Like she described above, we have many long named metrics that prevent us from getting more metrics in the table once their names get partially hidden.

I was also trying to do something similar today, but couldn't.+1 for this post, it's essential we could do somenthing like that.

Since nobody wrote any answer, I thought this idea pratical and the reporting is very similar on what Google Analytics offers.

It's 2016, 9 months after the last update on this issue, and Adobe still doesn't fixed that. Ascending sorting doesn't work at all and it's a pretty basic function. You can only sort by Descending.

Agree with @viclin, would be awesome to have this feature and be able to compare YoY, MoM, etc, side by side in a table/chart, like what we can do in Key Metrics reports like Visits and see Current Month, 4 Weeks Prior and 52 Weeks Prior, but with more flexibility.
