I knew I wasn't totally hallucinating!Adobe Reader with JavaScript DisabledIf you are looking for a simple way to provide feedback to those users who have disabled JavaScript in Adobe Reader, heres a simple approach. This works best on a flowed form as the text and space you are going to display to the user should ideally appear when script is disabled and disappear when script is enabled. Technically if a user has script disabled you cant use script to have a section of text appear or disappear...

I recall reading a blog or somewhere about some script to determine if JavaScript is enabled on the Client when the pdf form is opened, but I'll be hanged if I can find it now. Anybody recall seeing it?

Last night, while cleaning up a form, and taking out code like debugging app.alerts, LiveCycle ballooned the form file size from 13MB to 52MB!This morning, when I opened the file and made any modifications and then saved it, LC crashed with a Visual C runtime error, which wiped out the form file, leaving a 0 byte file. I'm hosed on all the work I did since as soon as I load the .bak file, rename and save it, as soon as I modify the newly named file, it crashes again.I have the DRWatson dump file...

We're converting a form from Word to PDF and I'm not sure how to lay it out. The first page is single column portrait mode, but the following pages are 2 column. It seems like setting that up involves 2 different master pages-- one single column, and 1 double column but I'm lost. Any help greatly appreciated! TIA.

It seesm to somehow be related to the size of the form - if the form gets over 2MB in size, it occurs. I shrank the form by making sure that I was only using the minimum number of embedded fonts. That got the form size down and the issue doesn't seem to have happened again until the form grew again this week.So, no, I really haven't got it fixed.. . .

D'oh! That's it! The term in the empty message ('locale') threw me off the scent.The message was only appearing for users with Reader 7; users with later versions of Reader weren't having the problem. Not sure why, but it's fixed now.Thanks for your help.

Some users, but not all, are getting an error message "Please select the Client's locale" when they press a button that has a single line of code on its click event: xfa.host.resetData(). The button has the default locale selected in its properties. The form has had the Reader extensions added, but the same thing is happening on the non-extended form.The users are using Acrobat Reader 7.0.5. Users with Reader 9 or Acrobat Pro 9 are not having the same issue. I could change the button's locale to...

I'm getting a malformed SOM expression error from the following statement:for(j=0; j <3; j++){xfa.resolveNode("form1.Table1.Row1[j].Cell3").mandatory = "disabled";}}I figure I'm not referencing the index of the table row correctly but I'm not finding any examples to mimic. Any help greatly appreciated!

I don't know that it's a problem as long as it works consistently, which it does. It's easy enough, if soemwhat laborious, to set the fields in question to disabled when they are hidden. It would be kind of nifty if one could set all the fields in a subform or table either mandatory or disabled at the subform or table level as well as at the individual field level.No worry, I just wanted to make sure I understood it before I started twiddling with the form.

If the fields are blank or null, why not change the field's presence to "invisible" or "hidden"?

Well, win some, lose some! 🙂 Since it's a relatively small number of fields, I think I'll just set up some additional text fields, and if the numeric fields aren't null, load the text fields with the numbers as strings since they've been totaled already. If the numeric fields are null, load the text fields with "N/A". Then I can have Word pick up the text fields instead of the numeric fields.Thanks for getting back to me.

Yup. That's what I thought, so it's not possible to change the type of field from numeric to string if the value is null?

It's 8 fields, well 9 if you count the total field, so I really don't even need to loop through the entire form. The fields are numneric so that if there's a number that is input, the total field will totalize properly. The problem is that the 8 fields are scattered throughout the Word document so if I could have the XML output file values for the fields be "N/A" instead of null or "00", it would save the word processors time doing search and replace.

We have a form that generates an XML file that is emailed to Word Processing to get merged into a Word document. The form uses a table to totalize some columns. The client now wants any cells in which the value is null to read "N/A" in the Word document. It's easy enough to make the form *display* N/A, but to put "N/A" in the fields so that the word processor doesn't have to search and replace, I'd like to change the affected fields to text fields programmatically and set them to "N/A" so thst t...

b Circling back on messages 9 and 10.I've spent some time reading up on digital signatures and I'm still not sure how to implement, or whether it can do what I'm looking for it to do. We have a form that is completed by a sales person taking an order using Reader. After the form is completed, I used Paul's script on a button click event to change all the form fields to "read-only" and to clean up some formatting. The sales person can then save the form through Reader extensions and can email it ...

Works like a charm -- thanks. I put it on the MouseEnter event of the button so that it fires before the user even has the chance to trigger the save. That way the user could save what they've got and come back later and complete it (assuming that the form has the Reader extensions added).

I'm clearly not getting something here -- even with the suggested change, Table1._Row1.count still reports 1 even when all the body rows are set to "hidden". Help!

So, if for example, the table name were "Table1" and the body rows were "Row1[*], I could use something like:if(Table1.Row1.instanceManager.count == 0) Table1.presence = "hidden";Subforms and tables can be a bit confusing . . . . .

Our form has a table where the user checks a box to include a product in a table by making the table row visible (otherwise the row is hidden). However, if none of the boxes are checked, I'd like to hide the table so that the header and footer rows aren't visible as well. Is there a way to determine if there are any body rows in a table, since that would tell me whether any product was selected? Does instanceManager only count body rows? Thanks in advance!
