It is just silly that this isn't possible.  What kind of modern designer doesn't support this kind of editing.  This is so frustrating and is not a good user experience. 

Manually adjusting widths in text mode does not appear to apply when the view is added to a dashboard.  Has anyone else experienced this and is there a resolution to this issue?
