This worked like a charm for a constant structure. Adding and  folder.[jcr:path] LIKE ''/var/test/links/%/%/%/%"    worked. Thanks a lot @Anish-Sinha

@lukasz-m  thanks and yes your understanding is right.. however this leads to a 100000 traversal , the query traversal limit set on the machine. The query i executed (initial email) did not throw any. Also, wouldn't this retrieve the sling:members and other asset node that is nt:unstructured?

Thanks @arunpatidar .. If date time field was in a  format with hhmmss, i had to fill in 00:00.I went ahead with creating a date field and storing it in hh mm ss but displaying in dd-mm-yyyy format, and while copying i had to clear the date time field and then set it with the value persisted. 

Thanks @Jörg_Hoh .This along with @lukasz-m 's response helped. Much appreciated. Using OOTB index. I have always wondered, what are the ways to identify what index I have to create? Also, please let me know the steps if there are any for debugging this.
