In this case, you need to map the drive to the server or I think files should be on the same server where your aem server is.

You need to retrieve the documents from the file system in variables and then pass them to ddx. I am afraid the path like you mentioned will work.

Workaround could be to add the data of your custom dropdown to a hidden text field and then can use that data.
