text extraction problem when converting pdf to text file

hello,



I can successfully convert a pdf to a text file using the xpaaj class

HOWEVER the problem is if some text in the pdf file is in italics

then for some reason it puts random spaces for the text in the text file.



for example if we have text "ISBN:" which is in italics,

when converted to text it is like this "IS BN :"



pls could some one help me in how to solve this asap.

any ideas are welcomed.
