Sunken Box Outline

Avatar

Depending on the magnification of a Sunken Box, the outline of my text boxes is missing the bottom and/or right lines. It seems to be completely arbitrary, as some boxes are missing them, and some boxes are not.

Can someone explain?

Thanks

This more than likely is a result of anti-aliasing (a way of drawing lines on the screen that attempts to make things look smooth at any size) at different zoom levels.

Also, since you're using the
Sunken Box style which is a 3D style, the light source comes from the bottom right corner therefore the bottom and right sides will have white and light gray lines. If the field is on a white background (which is the default page color) and the zoom level is such that the gray line is aligned between two physical pixel lines, it may seem, at times, that the bottom and right sides are missing because the white line blends into the page's color and the gray line is too small (at a small zoom like 25%) to be displayed partially on two pixel lines.

Is there any way to change the light source to come from top left?

Ryan,

The default appearance for a field in Designer is to have 4 edges with a 3D "sunken" look (which means the light source comes from the bottom right).

You can change this appearance by selecting the field and choosing "Custom..." as the setting for the Appearance property in the Object palette's Field tab.

Once you choose "Custom...", the Custom Appearance dialog will appear. There, select "Edit Together" from the Edges property and then "Raised - 3D" as the line style (where it says "Lowered - 3D").

This will produce a 3D border with the light source coming from the top left rather than the bottom right, giving your field's content area an raised appearance.
