Set Value in PDF Document

I am submitting a form as a PDF (set within the FSSUBMIT_ button) into a workflow. I was wondering if there is a way to set the value of a field within the form with a simple xPath expression. I know that I can access those fields by stripping out the xml with the processFormSubmission service but I wouldnt think I can set any fields as they are then put into a separate XML var. The reason Im submitting as a PDF is to hold the values of signature fields. If anyone knows a solution, I would appreciate it.

No,I do'nt think so you can do it. That would defeat the purpose of signing the PDF

Not if that field was excluded form the collection of said signature...

There is an option to send a signed XML file now in Designer. I don't know whether that means that you can still send the XML, but also retain a guarantee of the authenticity of the user. Anyone tried this?
