Populate Form from SQL Database - LifeCycle Reader Extensions Required?

I have successfully populated several text boxes on a form from data in an SQL Database and created a few buttons that allows me to move through the date--first, previous, next, etc.



My problem is that this will not work with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 --only with the professional version.



Is this by design in that Adobe requires you to purchase LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES to make this work? (Note that enabling user rights in Adobe Reader form Adobe Professional does nothing for this problem.)
