How do you add a large list of data to a drop down list

I creating an admission form in my hospital (non-profit) and I wanted the Admission person to be able to find the correct ICD-9 code or diagnosis spelling. Ive created the form in MS Word and a macro will go to a network drive to recall a .txt file that has all the information in it and the result would be listed in a combobox and the list would narrow down as they typed more letters until the point where they found the item they wanted or could freeform.

Im not familiar with Java and Im just learning LifeCycle Designer in Professional 8. I know how to enter the data one at a time but there are thousands of diagnosis which creates lots of room for mistakes. Any help would be great.

Have you looked at this post that includes a link to an example that will populate a drop down list from a Database?
