Hot backups of LC server

I have been reading (Avoka's site) about hot backups, and in order to do hot backups of LC, one needs to do the following:



* Turn on backup mode in the adminui - this will temporarily prevent LiveCycle from deleting any files from the GDS.

* Backup the database.

* Backup the GDS.

* Turn backup mode off.



If our company requires up to the minute recovery, wouldn't we potentially be in backup mode all day long?

Additionally, isn't it sufficient if the DBA keeps a 10 day transaction log and we have redundancy on the GDS? In that case, I would imagine that the DB could be recovered up to the minute as well as the GDS.
