Yes, this does sound like a good fit for your use case. You could also

provide access to the ebook for a limited amount of time. After that

time expires, the user would no longer be able to access the ebook.

But can livecycle prevent the one who bought the ebook to send it to other people? And i don't like to provide acces to the book a limit amount of time because if you bought a book in real not digital one.

You can look into the book as long as you don't throw it away.

I only wanted a wat to prevent copies of book and send it to other users. Does livecycle support that?

Yes, it can. You have to have the Policy Server application running on

a server that your end users can connect to. When the user attempts to

open a PDF document with a policy applied to it, Acrobat Reader will pop

up a login dialog. This login dialog will authenticate the user against

your Policy Server application and only allow access to the document if

authentication is successful. If the document is sent to someone else,

the other person must have that username and password. I don't think

you can prevent redistribution of the username and password, but you

could monitor the activity on the document and if you see any suspicious

activity you could revoke access to the document for that user account.

Does this make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions.

hmmm but how can it be monitored if the person is offline.

because if your offline u can't see when th document is active.

Will the document expires of reading?..(if that is like that it would

be a bit trouble because if u moved out of your house and

don't have internet and you want to read that book u

bought but it expires.)

I am asking maybe a bit too much but i think a ebook must work as

a normale book but in digital :P.

And 1 more thing: do u have to buy it 3 times if u want 3 ebook shops?(3 different servers)

thanks for the replies by the way ^^

P.S can it bought in Netherland? because i saw on the site with V.S 8)

That is where the Auto-Offline lease period comes in. You can allow

offline access for a certain number of days. When the user first

downloads the document, it also downloads a key which controls access to

the document while it is offline. When the lease period expires, the

user must once again authenticate against the server when attempting to

access the document. Then the user can again use the document offline

for a the same number of days.

As far as the servers are concerned...you can probably have a single

installation of Policy Server, but have your 3 ebook applications

connect to the same instance of Policy Server. Policy Server provides

the ability to communicate to it via Web Services (SOAP) or EJB.

I'm not sure of the sales channels in the Netherlands. You should

contact an adobe sales rep for more information:

Hope this helps!

Justin,

Couldn't the IP also be logged. I realize that it is not wise to count on the IP address for this kind of thing, but if you see a dozen different IPs being used for the same customer you would know something is awry.
