Hi all,
I am seeing Basic architecture of Adobe Experience Platform and AEP Edge Network @
Kindly explain what it is and why "Edge" in the name indicates.
Thanks,

Think of Edge as a globally distributed network of servers, built for super low latency and website personalization use cases.
Edge as in the edge of the Adobe worldwide network of servers you are interacting with when you are working with the Experience Platform.
These are on one side holding datastream configurations to forward incoming calls, for instance from the Web SDK on your website, containing tracking data, to the connected and configured set of tools in the experience platform.
At the same time, the Edge network servers also hold - for the CDP - so-called "Edge Profiles", which are in-memory pieces of data, made for real-time personalization, for instance through either Adobe Target or Journey Optimizer. Important to know and understand is that Edge Profiles will only contains person traits (like name, email, or whatever you are onboarding into datasets based upon Profile schema classes), and segment information of that particular profile i.e., which segments the profile had qualified for.
What the Edge Profiles will not contain is behavioral information like which web pages the profile has visited which whitepapers it has downloaded throughout his visit.
Edge Profiles only remain on the Edge Network for a limited time (14 days of inactivity). After that period, the profile gets flushed and remains only in the Hub, see below.
The counterpart of Edge Profiles are Hub Profiles which contain the full profile including all interactions (Experience Event class-based datasets).
Once a user starts interacting with the website, the Hub Profile is considered "interesting" and is "projected" into the Edge Network through the process mentioned above.
Basically: every Edge Profile has a Hub Profile, but not every Hub Profile has an Edge Profile.
(Note though: if you are trying to personalize your website, be aware that this projection can take minutes, which can affect the time when a website personalization can be applied through AJO which relies on segment qualifications. In these situations, Adobe Target can be the better tool to personalize especially new website visitors).
