Uploading assets to AEM via the Desktop App

Level 1

Hi There.   I have been trying to use the desktop app upload folders/files from a OneDrive folder.   I've been dragging the files from OneDrive to the Z: Drive that the desktop app creates.  I am finding that the files are loading to the desktop app, but the files are not showing up in the AEM web application, even after waiting a few hours.   The files show in the desktop app as being local files.   Any way to make these sync with the web application?

Check below options

Option 1: Make files fully local before dragging

  1. In OneDrive, right-click the folder/files

  2. Select “Always keep on this device”

  3. Wait for the green checkmark (fully downloaded)

  4. Then drag the files into the Z: drive

This ensures AEM can detect and upload the files properly.

Option 2: Copy files from a non-OneDrive location

  1. Copy the files from OneDrive to a local folder (e.g. C:\Temp)

  2. Drag them from that local folder into the AEM Z: drive

This avoids OneDrive file-locking issues entirely.

Also check below

  • Confirm the folder in Z: is an AEM-synced folder, not a read-only mount

  • Check the AEM Desktop App activity/logs for sync errors

  • Make sure filenames don’t contain unsupported characters

  • Verify you have write permissions to the AEM folder

Hope this helps!

Hi @JulianJo

I have referred the steps that you mentioned in problem statement associated with both folder and file , that I uploaded from OneDrive to the Z: Drive created by the desktop app.

I noticed file and folder both are showing up in the AEM web application after the green checkmark with 'Available locally' began to appear for files as shown below -

Could you please check the cacheinfo.json file inside relevant path.

Please refer the following document to troubleshoot - : https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/experience-manager-desktop-app/using/troubleshoot

Some additional information , I have tested this scenario with Adobe Experience Manager 2025.3.20133.20250325T063357Z-250300 and Windows 64-bit Enterprise (v3.0.1) Desktop app.

Thanks,
