Troubleshooting Apache Shutdown Error in XAMPP Control Panel: Blocked Port Issue

Avatar

Level 1

I have installed XAMPP on my Windows 7 machine using the xampp-win32-1.8.2-0-VC9-installer.exe. However, when I try to start Apache from the XAMPP Control Panel, I get an error message saying "Apache shutdown unexpectedly. This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies," etc.

error log:

5:38:38 PM [Apache] Error: Apache shutdown unexpectedly.
5:38:38 PM [Apache] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
5:38:38 PM [Apache] Press the Logs button to view error logs and check
5:38:38 PM [Apache] the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
5:38:38 PM [Apache] entire log window on the forums

I have tried changing the Apache port number to 8080, but the error still persists. I also checked the firewall settings and confirmed that port 80 is not blocked.

I followed these tips but to no avail:

Can someone help me to troubleshoot this issue and get Apache running in XAMPP Control Panel? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
