Setting up AEM in cloud service Design aspects

Hi,

We have already AEM in cloud and using this we can build AEM website.

Would need inputs as what all Design aspects would have been considered at  infrastructure level and instance performance level that we could have the AEM instances available to authors always and  publishers instances to live users.

Also additional services they could have used to keep the instances up . 

When should we scale up author and publish instances on cloud

if any one can help me here will be helpful

And also as this is cloud environment it is auto scalable environment and up on increase in the traffic the environments gets auto scaled automatically.
