Proxy in AEM

What is the use of osgi configuration - org.apache.http.proxyconfigurator

I tried to use this config, but  i could not find what is its purpose

What version of AEM are you working with and where are you seeing that class. I can find it in 6.0.

I am using a server to proxy the author server.
