Newsletter HTL component in Adobe Experience Manager?

I am looking to move newsletter development from Adobe Campaign Classic (not Standard) into Adobe Experience Manager 6.3. Does anyone have information / best practices on how to do so?

Ideally AEM users could author emails based on newsletter-friendly templates using newsletter-ready HTL components.

Which method (1 or 2) would be preferred in order to keep the personalization fields from Adobe Campaign.:

1. Creating a custom Adobe Campaign Email (AC 6.1) template
2. Creating a custom page template and allowing AC personalization fields in it.
