Link to resource from DAM

Hi,

I was trying to understand the following comment in Adobe documentation:

Source URL - https://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-0/administer/content/assets.html

Extract from above link is following text.

DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT VERSUS IMAGE COMPONENT

When determining whether to put an image into CQ DAM or use CQ's image component, consider the image lifecycle:

  • If the image has the same lifecycle as the page, use the Image Component.
  • If the image has a separate life cycle, for example, if you use the image twice or outside WCM, use CQ DAM.

Also, i am not able to understand the difference between CQ DAM vs. CQ MediaLibrary. What is the basic difference between two? When we upload an image in image component and we drag & drop an image of DAM what exactly happens in the repository?

Regards,

Anil

The Image component lets you upload content from the file system or you can drag from the DAM using the Content Finder - as shown here:

For difference between DAM and MediaLib, see this doc:

https://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-1/administer/content/assets/medialibrary.html

Also - they are doing a GEMS session on  CQ MediaLibrary.

As mentioned by Steve, [1] is good starting point for telling the difference between CQ DAM vs. CQ MediaLibrary.
