How to add links between a master asset (global) and a local asset?

Hi I wanted to know a good way of adding a link between a global (master) asset stored centrally and a local asset stored locally, so that properties from the global are inherited locally.

A change on the global asset will affect the local asset but not viceversa.

Working on multiple sets make out of sync easily.   Why not map your local drive to assets using webdav so that you work on same copy & automatically in sync without need of link?
