Hi all,

  1. Why should we use Dynamic Media in AEM? It does some things that DAM cant.
  2. Is it a different server with a lot of disk space? Physical server?
  3. If so, will add to the network latency?
  4. If used, will it replace DAM or it works in conjunction with DAM?
  5. Since Dynamic Media in AEM has been in use for a longtime, I would assume that it is available for AEM on Prem/AMS also. Pl comment.
  6. How does it differ between AEM on Prem/AMS and AEM As A Cloud Service?
  7. Is it licensed separately? Or it is free for some customers like AEM As A Cloud Service? I am not looking for any license fees, but as a general info.

Kindly do not share just URLs as many URLs are available on the internet already.

If you could answer these queries and put some URLs, it would help.

Appreciate all your responses.

Thanks,

RK.

Once DM integration is set-up with AEM, you would need to set up the necessary Image Profiles for Smart Crop and Image Presets for Smart Imaging.

Apply these to the relevant AEM Asset folders. Once image is uploaded, it would be synced to DM as well.

Select the image and check renditions, it would provide various DM renditions as per profiles/predets. Each rendition would have a specific URL.

Hello RK,

DAM is used for managing and organizing the Assets, while Dynamic media helps in optimizing and delivering the assets in real-time , that is, it helps in asset resizing and help in delivering the assets in the right format and aspect ratio with respect to the user device or screen size. Dynamic media generates different rendition of the assets and renders them on real-time.

DAM and Dynamic media works hand in hand as an integrated modules. As the original image is stored in DAM, there is not often much additional disk space needed for Dynamic Media, maybe small space might be required for media processed temp files.

Dynamic media is compatible with both on-permise and AEMasCloud. Dynamic media requires an additional license to be purchased.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Vishnu

Thanks Vishnu for this insight.

Is Dynamic Media on a separate cloud?

We have Smart Imaging and Smart Crop also that will make DAM capable of some of these features correct?

How to compare these?

Thanks,

RK.

Why should we use Dynamic Media in AEM? It does some things that DAM cant.

Using Dynamic Media in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) offers several advantages over the traditional Digital Asset Management (DAM) capabilities. Here are key reasons why Dynamic Media is beneficial:

  1. Enhanced Image and Video Delivery:

    • Responsive Design: Dynamic Media automatically delivers the best image or video size and resolution based on the user's device and screen size, ensuring optimal performance and user experience.
    • Content Optimization: It supports adaptive image delivery by serving images in the appropriate format (e.g., WebP, JPEG 2000) based on browser capabilities.
  2. Interactive Media:

    • Image and Video Hotspots: You can create interactive hotspots within images and videos, enabling users to engage with content directly. This feature is particularly useful for e-commerce and detailed product views.
    • 360-Degree Views and Zoom: Users can interact with media in more dynamic ways, such as rotating products or zooming into high-resolution images.
  3. Automated Media Processing:

    • Smart Cropping and Focus Areas: Dynamic Media uses AI to automatically crop images to focus on the most important parts, enhancing the visual appeal and relevance of the content.
    • Video Transcoding: It automates the process of transcoding videos into various formats and resolutions, ensuring compatibility across different devices and platforms.

Is it a different server with a lot of disk space? Physical server?

Dynamic Media is a cloud-based service integrated with AEM that offers extensive media management and delivery capabilities far beyond what a traditional physical server with ample disk space could provide. It combines the power of cloud computing, AI-driven automation, and global CDN delivery to enhance the way media assets are managed and delivered.

If so, will add to the network latency?

Sites using Dynamic Media, use Dynamic Media links. Thus, all requests will hit DM directly, not via AEM.

DM has its own global CDN delivery.

If used, will it replace DAM or it works in conjunction with DAM?

If you are already using AEM Assets then, DM will be used in conjunction with DAM.

When used together, AEM Assets and Dynamic Media offer a comprehensive solution for managing, optimizing, and delivering digital media content. Here are their roles:

AEM Assets

1. Digital Asset Management (DAM):

  • Central Repository: Manages all digital assets in one place.
  • Metadata Management: Allows detailed tagging and organization.
  • Version Control: Tracks changes and maintains different versions.
  • Workflow and Approval: Ensures assets go through necessary stages before publishing.

2. Collaboration and Sharing:

  • Shared Workspaces: Facilitates team collaboration.
  • Access Control: Ensures only authorized users can access specific assets.

3. Asset Distribution:

  • Multi-Channel Publishing: Publishes assets across various channels.
  • Content Reuse: Allows easy reuse across projects.

Dynamic Media

1. Media Delivery Optimization:

  • Responsive Delivery: Adjusts images and videos for different devices.
  • Adaptive Streaming: Adjusts video quality based on user bandwidth.

2. Advanced Media Capabilities:

  • Interactive Features: Enables zoom, pan, 360-degree views, and hotspots.
  • Global CDN: Ensures fast and reliable media delivery.

3. Automated Processing:

  • Smart Cropping: Uses AI to focus on key areas of images.
  • Video Transcoding: Automates format and resolution adjustments.

Since Dynamic Media in AEM has been in use for a longtime, I would assume that it is available for AEM on Prem/AMS also. Pl comment.

Yes DM is available for On Prem/AMS

How does it differ between AEM on Prem/AMS and AEM As A Cloud Service?

All features should be available for both AEM Set-ups. It would be better to cross-check your specific use-cases.

Is it licensed separately? Or it is free for some customers like AEM As A Cloud Service? I am not looking for any license fees, but as a general info.

Its separate
