DAM - Redundant Folder

While uploading assets pdf,zip files in DAM a redundant folder with the name of the asset(pdf file) got created in the same path where the asset is uploaded.

The folder contained sub folders namely jcr:content and metadata.xml.

Is it possible in case this sub folder is deleted, the parent folder too might get removed from DAM, is there any way to recover the assets ?
