AEMaaCS Assets - Smart Translations equivalent?

In the past, AEM had a really cool feature around Assets + Smart translation: https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/experience-manager-learn/assets/translation/smart-translatio...

This is now not possible in AEMaaCS (and Apache Joshua itself is retired anyhow).

There is some other sort of translation in AEM Assets now (https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/experience-manager-cloud-service/content/assets/admin/transl...) but tbh the Smart Translations was a super pleasant surprise for authors: they didn't need to adjust metadata, "it just worked".

Have you faced the same challenge - and if yes, is there a feature i might be missing here?

Yes, I also faced the same issue with aem assets smart translation but unfortunately not able to find any alternatives.

Adobe supports engineer suggested to have a multilingual assets just like pages but we don’t want to duplicate the assets only for metadata values. They also confirmed that it’s not in their roadmap for AEM cloud service but will still works with on-prem and AMS
