AEM DAM Asset usage Analytics, Insights and Reports

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for help to setup DAM asset usage reports. We are version 6.5 on prem.

What we expect out of it: visibility of how many times the asset has been used on a webpage, how many times it has been clicked on, how many times it has been used in a collection. Additionally it would be great to have data on how the asset was found within the DAM: what keywords were used to bring it to the search results.

My dev team helped setup the Adobe Analytics for asset insights. The feature is currently on Stage and Test environment. However it is not picking up any data. I confirm that the asset is referenced in the webpage (even multiple times), but it does not reflect in the insights data.

Adobe explains the asset has to be used on webpages by using the embed code. But that makes not sense in our case because we use asset pick tool when the asset is being added to the website component.

Is there a way to see how many times the asset has been clicked on, how many times it has been referenced in the webpage, or shared in collections, all in one report / insight / analytics?

Furthermore, as a DAM librarian, I want to know how the metadata is performing. So I want to see what terms / keywords / phrases are being entered into the search field of the DAM. This would tell me what users are looking for. Also how many hits do those terms get - this would show me the accuracy of metadata. Also it shows where we have content gaps and allow us to fill them in with expected imagery.

Is AEM DAM capable of such?

Many thanks 🙂

Hello @PovEim ,

Asset Insights will not work in your setup. It only tracks assets when they are embedded using the 'Embed Code'. Your website uses the asset picker, so AEM cannot detect usage, clicks, or impressions. This is a product limitation, not a setup issue.

> What AEM can do:
- Show which pages reference an asset.
- Show how many references exist.
- Basic info via the References panel.

>What AEM cannot do:
- Count clicks on assets.
- Count impressions or views.
- Show how many times an asset is used in collections.
- Track search keywords typed inside DAM.
- Show which keywords returned an asset.
- Show metadata performance.
- Provide a unified asset engagement report.

> Why you're not seeing any Insights data: Using the asset picker bypasses the tracking mechanism. No matter how correctly Analytics is configured, AEM will not record usage.
