Hi @StephenBe7,

To answer your question, Yes — Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (version 2015 / “15”) can add audio to PDFs, but with important limitations.

What Acrobat Pro DC 15 can do

Embed audio files (MP3, WAV, etc.) into a PDF
✔ Audio can be click-to-play inside the PDF
✔ Audio becomes part of the PDF file

This is done using Rich Media / Sound annotations.

How to add audio in Acrobat Pro DC 15

  1. Open your PDF in Acrobat Pro DC

  2. Go to Tools → Rich Media

  3. Select Add Sound

  4. Click on the place in the PDF where you want the audio

  5. Choose your audio file (MP3/WAV)

  6. Set playback options (icon, poster, play on click, etc.)

  7. Save the PDF

Users will see an audio icon they can click to play.

Thanks
Pranay

Hello @StephenBe7

You can refer to below doc:

Also, please post this in Acrobat forum for any additional help.

Thanks,

Thanx for the advice. As it turns out, I can’t use Acrobat 9 because Adobe removed the ability to activate it, evidently because they want people to pay a ridiculous amount for a subscription to the recent version.

So, I’m going to try Foxit.

Take care

Thanks for responding, Rahul. Although I managed to insert an MP3 into a pdf, when I tried to play it, I got the message "To view the Flash® technology content in this PDF file, please install the required version of Flash Player." However, I understand that Adobe stopped supporting Flash Player in 2020. So, how do I get around that.

Thanks in advance

Hi @StephenBe7,

I tested this internally with my Acrobat Pro DC and I do not see any issues. As you mentioned, with Acrobat Pro DC 2015, you might see these issues because older PDFs rely on Flash Player to play embedded audio/video.
The latest version of Acrobat no longer supports Flash, and you should not see this problem with the latest Acrobat versions.

Thanks
