Integrate the AEM Server and DAM server

HI ,

We are planning to run the DAM server and AEM server separately as we huge assets and customization on assets.  To reduce the load on the Author and Publisher servers we want to keep  DAM server separately,

My Question is there a way to establish the connection from AEM server to DAM server so that authors will have asset access in AEM server itself even though it hosted as different server.

       Integrating asset picker with cf or asset finder is one of the option.
