Marketing Channel Distribution - Best Practices/Goals/Targets

Hi,

 

What is a good/normal Marketing Channel Distribution? For example, is this an industry standard or best practice?

 

 

  • Organic Search: ~40-50%
  • Direct Traffic: ~20-25%
  • Social Media: ~10-15%
  • Paid Search/Ads: ~5-10%
  • Referral: ~5-10%

It really depends on your business... for instance.. the News Industry in Canada used to have decent Social Media, but since Bill C-18 (online News Act) which mandated tech giants to pay the news organizations for every referral to our sites, sites like Facebook completely blocked Canadian News from their platforms.

 

There is also the consideration of how much advertising do you do.. Paid could be high or low based on your actions.. If you have a lot of affiliates, your referral traffic might be up....

 

I don't think there is a one-size-fits-all model....
