Segment Management in SiteCatalyst 15

When I moved to SiteCatalyst 15, the list of segments available in the drop down was cluttered with segments created by several users in the Data Warehouse and Discover.  Many of these are variations on best practices with the same names as the Global segments.  Is it possible to make the segment appear only to those who created them unless they share them or users proactively add it to their list as dashboard and bookmarks are currently managed?

Is it possible to have a manager similar to the Customize Menus interface to group and toggle visibility for some users/groups?  Toggling visibility by group would be handy in Customize Menus too.

Overall SiteCatalyst v15 is amazing.  Adobe Omniture has definitely taken it to the next level.  Bravo!

We'd like to see:

  • ability to hide and manage segment visibility across SC, Discover and DW
  • to ensure that segments created by users in SC15 are only visible to those users
  • provide some mechanism to share segments between users (so someone builds a super complex segment in SC15 but wants to share with their team - how can they do that?)
  • Once a segment is built in the SC15 interface to have the list automatically refresh - at the moment we have to switch report suites to get the segment to become visible - not good if you are wanting to create a few in SC15 at once
  • Added: Create the ability of end users to organize segments into folders and for Admins to create shared segments into folders. There are a lot of segments.
  • Added: Allow admins to share segments to selected users/groups. For us this is not a premissions issue, but a clutter issue which might be resolved by folders.
  • Added: Segments are complex and prone to error. Rather than restricting segment creation to Admins, we solved the propblem with a naming convention that identifies "approved" segments.

When an organization has 1.8 bajillion segments, as does mine, the segments dropdown gets awfully cluttered.  Unfortunately, aside from folder names in ALL CAPS, there is no way to differentiate folder names from page view container segments.

I would recommend either giving page view container segments their designated icon, making folder names bold, or both.

Would like to have a "segment manager" similar to the existing "bookmark" or "dashboard manager".

It would enable users to:

  • Share their segments.
  • To directly copy segments created by others instead of creating them from scratch. Apparently,  creating from scratch is a bit tedious.

Thanks

I am both Discover user and Site Catalyst admin. I have to create global segments for my users who does not have access to Discover but I also need to do deep dive analysis in Discover. Unfortunately right now I end up creating most of the segments 2 times , 1 in Site Catalyst admin console and 1 in Discover.

We really need to have an option to be able to share them across 2 methods..

I second that! Additionally, I think segments are definitely 'beta-worthy'. There is a lot that can be done to make sharing and managing segments better. Tons of ideas on this board.

An alternative if we have to see them all, is to allow them to be collapsed based on author or folder.

If I have 5 for project "TowTruck" and 5 for a request that I've set up in folder "JoeSmith",   the drop down should default to the folder names and allow me top open only the folder that holds the one I want to find.    Should not have to scroll through the hundreds that have been created since the beginning of time in DW  and/or Discover.

OUCH!

Multiple users should be able to save segments to the same Shared folder.  It wastes a lot of space to have so many different segment groups.

We've ended up with several folders all named "Shared Segments" that are owned by different users; or alternatively people just name their own shared folder like "Emily's Shared Segments"  "Sarah's Shared Segments" or  "John's Shared Segments"... etc.

A generic "Shared Segments" we can all publish to would help a lot.
