Exclude Today in Rolling Date Range

Avatar

Description -
Exclude Today in Rolling Date Range, ie 'This month' that excludes today. Could be 'as simple' as a checkbox much like how 'include unspecified' is for a breakdown via Filtering.

Why is this feature important to you -

Always looking at Campaign to date performance and 'today's performance is negatively performing typically because conversion propensity is higher in the evenings.

How would you like the feature to work -

In the date range selector as a cta box, could be in the advanced settings with the 'rolling dates' feature.

Current Behaviour -

Today's performance is always incuded when looking at 'Q3' date range when in the middle of it (say aug 30th)

@Matt_Payne-adidas,
I can appreciate where you're coming from.  Just for everyone else's benefit, this is something that can currently be accomplished by using the Advanced Settings to quickly use rolling dates.  For instance, select THIS MONTH in the list of presets, and then under the rolling dates, change the END to the Start of current day.  You can use this approach for just about any date range, custom or otherwise, but I would agree this would be good for improving productivity if you're using/updating date ranges on a frequent basis.

Thanks for the Response, @jeff_bloomer !

Indeed it would be of time-saving benefit to set the date-range to that of the length of the known campaign against commercial campaign calendars without 'today' being reported when within that range, for the reasons as stated above (negative skew of CVR, Traffic etc).

The current methodology is as exactly as you show above and it's useful up-to until the final day of the campaign.

Cheers, M

Hi @Matt_Payne-adidas!

Agreed.  The same would go for the option with the checkmark as well.  Once you get to the first of the new month, campaign, etc., you would have to update your Date Range(s) regardless.  In other words, on that first day, would have to replace them with a Date Range like "Last Month," "Last Week," or a Custom Range to include the final day to ensure full reporting.

I still like the idea, though.  Whether or not it gets picked up and implemented, I would advise proactively creating a drop-down of both the current Date Range, as well as the final Date Range, so you don't have to do a bunch of dragging to replace one or more Date Ranges.  It will be a lot easier to just go to each affected section and swap the Date Range when relevant.

Here's a modifier to the request, though.  It would be really cool if we had the ability to set up a trigger in the report so that we could FORCE a swap on the first day of a new campaign.  I know we have some more latitude to do things like this in Report Builder, but having the ability to set simple date triggers and even include some simple variables inside our text descriptions would make the automation of reused reports/dashboards a lot easier to use and distribute on a monthly basis.

@EricMatisoff - What do you think?  Worthy of a separate ideas post?
