Most users know that Marketo usually retries email sends for 24 hours.[1] If neither a fully-successful nor fully-failed SMTP transaction can be completed in that time, the email will Soft Bounce.   But what does it mean to “retry for 24 hours”? Are there tens of thousands of attempts, the server retrying right after the previous attempt fails? (Yikes, no.) Does it try every hour on the hour? (Also no.)   You don’t need to think about this every day. But the question comes up occasionally, and it’s good to have at least a rough answer.   For example: sales complains that a contact didn’t get that day’s cast. After way too much hold music, you find the contact’s IT team disclosed mail problems earlier in the day, but they’re now resolved. The last entry in the Activity Log is Send Email.   How do you intuit what Marketo is doing under the hood and give a prediction for when they might get that still-queued email? Working with a client recently I noticed something quite interesting about bot detection and the impact on open rates.   If you are using bot detection in logging mode, any email open that is done by a person AFTER also being done by a bot will not be recorded.   The rationale is simple, perfectly reasonable, but still very frustrating.   Marketo records one and only one open per email per lead.  Normally this is exactly as it should be.  However, if a bot opens the email first and you are in bot detection logging mode, then THIS is the open that gets recorded.  If a person subsequently opens the email, then this does not get recorded (it's not the first open after all).   As best I can determine, there isn't a way around this other than to either turn bot detection off OR use bot detection in filtering mode.     My particular use case We were looking into Click to Open ratios.  To counteract the effects of the filtering issue, we

Hi!I'm implementing an SSFS that can set or change a field of a lead in the callback. The documentation I use: https://github.com/adobe/Marketo-SSFS-Service-Provider-Interface Wait Until (API Name: waitUntil) - custom datetime lead field This is the data I callback to Marketo. The format is described in the documentation. The field mapping is set up according to the documentation in my serviceDefiniton and looks correct in the Marketo interface. But the "Wait Until" lead field remains empty. It's the same with the other datetime fields. There is no problem with the string fields.What can it be related to?  

We migrated to Marketo a little while ago and migrated existing contacts from our previous automation system and our CRM environment. None of these records has an acquisition program. We're planning to run a batch campaign that will set the acquisition program for all of these to an operational program, essentially calling the out as previously existing. I couldn't find much information as to whether this was a good or bad idea, so I thought I'd ask if there's another, better opinion about what to do.

hi all, I just wanted to confirm that we can add some externally generated utm's to our emails without any negative implications on tracking in marketo, email, munchkin or otherwise?  for our internal marketing reports & GA we will have a utm per email campaign.   thanks in advance, Mike   PS I do plan to test this before we go live in any case to ensure it all works correctly.

I am working on a webinar that has multiple reminder emails. I want to set up a flow that is triggered based off someone being added to the webinar list. The flow will have wait steps to send out the reminder emails on specific dates. For an example, reminder email 1 goes out on Jan 27th,8:00am. If someone signs up after the wait step date, is there a way for them to skip that step?   When I did a test a I signed up after the first wait step date for the 1st reminder email and I was still sent that reminder email. Is there a way around this ?    

Hello All, I have set up a Smart Campaign (trigger) on Marketo. It goes as: If the person takes an action on the form, send a certain email to them. The 'Sent email' results on the Smart campaign shows as 405.  To confirm my results, I have created a smart list with the same filter but the result shows only 1 here. I am understanding that since the email is included in the Smart campaign flow, the results are more accurate. Because the Smart list has been created separately, there is a discrepancy.   Did anyone have the same experience? Would appreciate your insights on this use case. Thanks! 🙂 

Hello!   I want to create a Card module that has a custom background. Inside of that, I want to be able to place other modules like buttons and images and stuff. I tried to add `class="mktoContainer"` to the inside of the Card module, however that didn't allow me to drag and drop other components inside.   Is it possible?

Has anyone found a way to send a sample (test) email to a group alias? We like to send test emails for sensitive comms to an internal group before sending for real. I'd like to send to a marketing@ alias instead of listing out a long list of emails. It doesn't seem that Marketo natively supports doing this. Anyone found a way?

We have several Business Areas (BA) and one global lead-scoring model. Will it make sense to create a model for each Business Area or keep the global model and update the score for each BA at a program level?   Thank you, Carla

Hello Community,   I am trying to track all social media clicks through one program. I have been testing the program and clicking on the tracked link but still seeing "0 members" in program. It seems to be set up correctly and I added an interesting moment (to link with SFDC) and it is not showing up. Hello, I want to create an application/reception form for a certain service and record the reception number as a history.If the same person applies multiple times, I want to leave the number without overwriting.I plan to use LocalForm for now.   1) What kind of data should be used for the reception number? (Campaign ID + UserID or something?) 2) I would like to store the receipt number without overwriting it, but I am concerned that it will be overwritten if I use a custom field.   I would appreciate it if you could tell me the best method.

Hello,  I like to start a process in case a user is in deletion process. Especially it's about starting one or more webhocks to make sure that the personal data will be deleted as well in another system. Do you have an idea how to accomplish this?    Unfortunatley I did not see any trigger like "Person is deleted" (like for the creation). I'm aware that it is possible to create a smart list which contains all activities and will end with the "Delete Person" flow step. But in this case it is possible to delete a person and to forget about the other system.  Kind regardsWolfram

Hello!   I need to set up Marketo to Vidyard integration, which entails adding a Role with API access. Vidyard's documentation specifies that I need to add the "Read-Write Lead" permission to the role. However, I don't see that permission in the list of available permissions under "Access API".   As well, the Marketo API documentation has conflicting information. Specifically, "Leads" appears under the REST API > Lead Database docs and references Read-Write Lead permission, as well as under REST API > Endpoint Reference > Lead Database, but is not mentioned in the "Descriptions of Role Permissions" page in the Marketo Guide.   Can someone give me some clarification on this? Has the Lead endpoint been discontinued, or do I need to have access to something else in Marketo to access it?

I'm trying to develop a velocity script where it checks if a field in a custom object (which is being synced from a Dynamics custom entity) is not empty. If this field is empty, I would like to print a message saying the details are not available at this time. The entity is being synced with Marketo using the standard process, and I can call information from this entity successfully in other scripts.   The data is structured as follows: The contact/lead is linked a record on the 'contactQualification' object, this is a one-to-many relationship. A qualification record has a lookup field to 'externalCourseList', this is a one-to-one relationship. A courseList record has a field 'friendly name' which is what I would like to print. Contacts can have multiple qualifications, but I'm happy to print only the most recent one (that is, only the record at index 0).
