Encrypting and Decrypting PDF Documents by Adobe Docs Abstract About the Encryption Service The Encryption service lets you encrypt and decrypt documents. When a document is encrypted, its contents become unreadable. An authorized user can decrypt the document to obtain access to the contents. If a PDF document is encrypted with a password, the user must specify the open password before the document can be viewed in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. Likewise, if a PDF document is encrypted with a certificate, the user must decrypt the PDF document with the public key that corresponds to the certificate (private key) that was used to encrypt the PDF document. Encrypting PDF Documents with a Password When you encrypt a PDF document with a password, a user must specify the password to open the PDF document in Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Also, before another AEM Forms operation, such as digitally signing the PDF document, can be performed on the document, a password-encrypted PDF document must

Breadcrumb Component by Adobe Docs Abstract The Core Component Breadcrumb Component is a navigation component that builds a breadcrumb of links based on the page's location in the content hierarchy. Usage The Breadcrumb Component displays the position of the current page within the site hierarchy, allowing page visitors to navigate the page hierarchy from their current location. This is often integrated into page headers or footers. Available options, such as the default navigation level and the ability to show the current page or hidden pages, can be defined by the template author in the design dialog . The content editor can then choose if hidden pages should be shown or not and the actual navigation level for the component in the edit dialog . Version and Compatibility The current version of the Breadcrumb Component is v2, which was introduced with release 2.0.0 of the Core Components in January 2018, and is described in this document. The following table details all supported v

Configuring OSGi by Adobe Docs Abstract OSGi is a fundamental element in the technology stack of Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). It is used to control the composite bundles of AEM and their configuration. OSGi " provides the standardized primitives that allow applications to be constructed from small, reusable and collaborative components. These components can be composed into an application and deployed ". This allows easy management of bundles as they can be stopped, installed, started individually. The interdependencies are handled automatically. Each OSGi Component (see the OSGi Specification ) is contained in one of the various bundles. Handle with care: a guide to safely migrating AEM pages to using new tags by Rachna Mehta Abstract Introduction At The Telegraph, we use Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) as our web platform, with various websites running on it. The entire website is divided into two sections: 1. Core web which includes content from the wider Editorial teams (News, Business, Sport etc) 2. Travel web which includes content from the Travel Editorial team only. The Core Web team uses a custom authoring tool that runs on top of AEM Author, providing a bespoke UI engineered for Editorial’s needs and helping to streamline the creation, updating and publication of content on the website. The authoring tool also includes a cool feature, whereby new topic pages are created as soon as X number of pages are given the same tag and published. In contrast, our Travel Editorial team has historically used AEM’s Classic UI for their purposes of creating and tagging content. How did we do this? We created a working gro

Adobe Document Services and AEM Integration by Pawan Mittal Abstract What is Adobe Document Services? Despite PDF’s near ubiquity, supporting PDF viewing on the web or in applications often remains a multi-step process where the developer relies on disparate browser implementations and simply doesn’t own the end-to-end customer experience. So organizations have little control over their PDF workflows and PDF integration often requires additional downloads or sending users to 3rd party applications. With tools and language support that caters to web developers’ existing skillsets, you can now create compelling PDF experiences, including viewing, exporting, and creating PDFs. Adobe Document Services is part of the Adobe Platform–an ecosystem aimed at helping 3rd party application developers embed Adobe services, develop custom apps and leverage Adobe products and technology in their solutions. Adobe Document Services provides tools that allow you to easily create seamless PDF viewing e

Day 13 - AEM Workflows (Part II) by Red Quark Abstract Howdy fellow devs 👋! In the previous post, we learned about basic stuff about AEM. In this post, we will see how can we create different steps in a workflow. We will mainly focus on two types of workflow steps - Process Step and Participant Step. Process Step First we are going to discuss the most widely used Workflow step - the process step. This is generally used when we want our application to execute a certain logic. It executes an ECMA script or an OSGi service to perform automatic processing. A process can be implemented using the following steps - 1. Create an OSGi service implementing the interface com.adobe.granite.workflow.exec.WorkflowProcess. 2. Set the property process.label. This is the String value by which our workflow needs to be listed. 3. Implement the execute(WorkItem, WorkflowSession, MetaDataMap) method with the implementation code. The execute() method has three parameters - 1. WorkItem - It is th

AEM Application Maintenance Tips and Tricks by NextRow Abstract In today’s world, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) is a comprehensive content management solution for building websites, mobile apps and forms. And it makes it easy to manage your marketing content and assets. Adobe Experience Manager can be a real challenge to architect, deploy, and integrate. A prime factor here is, you need to understand how your AEM application is performing under certain conditions. This is best done by monitoring the application over a long period of time. When it comes to managing and maintaining an AEM application, it’s not just system maintenance that we should be concerned about, we should also think of it from the application code perspective. AEM application maintenance is two faceted. One is ongoing, regular maintenance which falls under AEM DevOps/AEM Administrator tasks. Second is following the best practices in application development. Here we are going to list out the various aspects of

Cluster aware coding in AEM by Joerg Hoh Abstract With AEM as a Cloud Service quite a number of small things have changed; and next to others you also get real clustering support in the authoring environment. Which is nice, because it gives you downtime-less authoring during deployments. But this cluster also comes with a few gotchas, and one of them is that your application code needs to be cluster-aware. But what does that mean? What consequences does it have and what code do you have to change if you have never paid attention to this aspect? The most important aspect is to do “every change only once“. It doesn’t make sense that 2 cluster nodes are importing the same set of data. A special version of this aspect is “avoid concurrent writes to the same node“, which can happen when a scheduled job is kicked off at the same time on all nodes, and this job is trying to change something in the repository. In this case you don’t only have overhead, but very likely a lot of exceptions. R
