Introduction This is the first of two blog posts about my experience with customer engagement and customer experience metrics on global web properties at 3M.  This first post is an overview of how we defined a custom 3M.com Engagement Index in Adobe Analytics.  In the second post, I will share some surprising insights about the relationship between engagement and customer experience metrics.   The theory behind our engagement index is straightforward.  We defined specific behaviors that our marketing partners felt were indicators of highly engaged (and assumed to be valuable) visitors.  The idea was to use this as a KPI, understand the components of engagement, drive improved engagement over time, understand how different businesses or geographies vary in their engagement, and so on.   We were also striving for some mathematical elegance.  More specifically, we wanted each individual behavioral dimension to have a comparable metric and be able to comb

Background: CarMax operates in a product team model, where each product team is responsible for a different area of the website. I provided the 1st party tagging requirements, and was responsible for all the administrative areas in Adobe, but each of those teams used their own developers to implement tags. Then we had another siloed 3rd party tag developer. Operating in silos led to several problems: 1. Pipeline management •Blocked pipeline delays critical updates •Too many cooks in the kitchen •Not best practice/goes against Adobe’s recommended approach2. Risk •Product dev’s don’t understand the implications of the changes they make, which puts at risk… •All 3rd party media tags (power ~$xxM in media spend) •1st party tags (power reporting, lead scoring models, etc.)3. Tagging was deprioritized •Product dev’s not all adequately trained on tagging •Too many competing priorities •No resources to support site-wide initiatives (like global tags)4. Good morning, everyone! I would really appreciate it if someone could provide some kind of insight into this or be able to answer this question. In a nutshell, my question consists of two parts. In regards to the first item, I am not sure what the "column total" is displaying. Can you explain what it is? At first glance, I thought it was showing a sum of all the items in the column, but when I added them up, it was not

I am trying to decide how to handle Product Views on pages that are not the actual Product Detail page. We have many locations on the site that allow a user to "add to cart" from a page that is not a Product Detail page, however our implementation only captures the Product View from the Product Detail page. Wanted to see what others thought about firing Product View outside the normal Product Detail page.

It seems I'm losing my marbles here. When I use the classification rule builder, it doesn't appear to be there for me to select in the 'Set Classification As' drop down box, even though I have created a classification in Report Suite Manager. Ad fatigue—your audiences got tired with your ads. This is the simplified definition. But after observing ads for the past half a decade, I realised it is NOT the audiences that got exhausted, but the ad serving machine. Below example is an ad with media buying objective optimised for CPC.  In the above chart, here is the outline of events: Event Ads Serving Machine: Reaching Audiences Audiences: Engaging with the Ads 1 The machine is trying to reach as many audiences as possible especially during the learning phase (first seven days). Clicks ‘reward’ the machine, as seen on increasing Clickthrough rate (CTR) 2 The machine experiences ‘fatigue’ in reaching new audiences from Day 8. Audiences reached from Day 1-7 are the same audiences within the estimated pool of audiences, the proportion of clicks from impressions dropped from Day 8. 3 The machine maintained the daily Reach between Day 8-9. And the answer? It NEVER would. Before we dive into that, I want to establish the difference between website entries and visits. Imagine your landing page as a house, the entries are those who entered through the front door; while visits include those who came from the windows, fell from the roof, brought by the wind through the back door, and any other portal. Attention has limited reserves that won't be deployed in the case of a mundane or insufficiently rewarding task. That’s when Ad Fatigue kicks in or your digital marketing campaigns underperform because the ad serving wasn’t reinforced enough. What Are Three Antidotes for Ad Fatigue? 1.      Ad Format: Variety is Key! At least two creative versions are recommended—ALWAYS. This way, the machine can serve different ads to various audience types which improves the reach overtime. This will also ensure that each audience will see multiple creatives, so if they don’t resonate or click on one, the machine can serve the other. Below is an example ad serving frequency for the span of 15 days of the campaign, and another set in the remaining 15 days. Why is this important? Hello,  Has anyone noticed their data layer is unstable in production today? We had the issue in our UAT environment and we were told to change our extension. We corrected this and pushed our changes to production. In production, we are using the correct extension we pushed our code and we are still experiencing an unreliable data layer firing.
