Tracking Actual Time - Project Level or Task Level

Avatar

Our PMO is curious to know if, in your organization, you track project resource time at the PROJECT level or at the TASK level ? Based on our understanding so far we can track time at 1 of 2 levels. I've attached 2 screenshots below. currently in our home grown SharePoint system project resources track time by week at the project level. We are wondering what's a best practice to track time and if there are any pros and cons folks have experienced for tracking time at project vs task level ? We would really appreciate your input. 1. at the project level 2. at the task level Lavanya Krishna Senior PM Baxter Credit Union

We track time at the task level & actually don't allow logging time at the project level. We want to encourage staff to not only log time, but to also update tasks telling us what they did and % completed. We also want to know the actual hours a task needed to complete. If we allowed logging at the project level, our tasks would not be updated, marked done, etc. Marie Kelly The MetroHealth System

We also only allow project time to be logged to a task within the project. Adina Pierce Cisco
