New Project vs Converting a Request

Avatar

Level 2
Are there any potential consequences for opening a new project in Workfront vs converting a request (from a request queue) into a project? Does opening a new project ad hoc impact reporting data negatively at all? Or does it matter? Thanks! Kat Lyon

Hi: I don’t think it matters. You can convert the request to a project, which links them. You can create a project unattached to the request, and then later attach the Request to that project. No impact I can think of to reporting, because in the end, there are multiple ways of connecting that request to the project, and they are all identical. Thanks, Eric

Hi Kat, We use Workfront request as a Idea for a project. Once the idea is approved by our senior management then we convert it into a new project. A request is connected with the project, so you always can go back to it if needed and have a look into details etc. It has no negative impact on it.

The only consequence that we have found is that by linking the two after the fact, the data captured on the custom form from the request does not carry over to the project. That data is important to us, so we try to convert requests to projects whenever possible.
