Calendar View based from custom date field - possible?

I feel like this has been discussed ad nausea based on the search results. However, just in case someone else has come up with something brilliant - does anyone know how to map out a custom date field onto a calendar? I want to map out a project based on a populated field 'Master Audit Cycle Date' - which, is not a project and will be a date in the future. This is our best work-around to date.

Anyone know the answer to this? It seems you can only add to a calendar native fields.
