Adjusting a Layout Template without overriding all user-define preferences

Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust layout templates and tabs without overriding all user-defined custom tabs? According to support, this is intended behavior.

I'd like to know too! I'd like one Program to have one set of tabs and another Program to have it's own set of tab layouts. I don't want all Programs or even all Portfolios to have the same layouts!! What are our options?

I believe this works on all views, filters and groups. You can customize your view (in the drop down menu) then after you have added all the columns and moved them where you want to be, you save it as "New View" which will not override anyone else's view, but gives you the view you want. You will just have to select it each time you go to that screen. But that beats the alternative of not having it.
