Adding a sort to a custom view

Is there a way to add a sort to a custom view on the Project I Own list? I know you can click the column headings to sort on that column but that only allows one sort. On the attached, I want to first sort on the Project Phase grouping and then within each grouping sort on the Start On date. I've tried adding the following text mode to the Start On date field in the custom view but it doesn't work. sortOrder2 sortType=asc

My guess is that views that are not in reports disable pre-defined row sequencing. I tried this in a project view of mine and the column did not pre-sequence. sortOrder=2 sortType=asc
