I agree, but would like it to be available in a task report where users have the ability to log hours in the actual hours column, rather than have to click on the task and log in the updates area or click on their timesheet to log the hours. The current process is inefficient and I am surprised this hasn't become an option at this point. There are no real workarounds for this that I am aware of.
I am not aware of any plans to natively allow users to log hours in the actual hours column of a task report, but would doubt it, since the current behavior is to show the totalof all the task's actual hours, which -- were it to be somehow repurposed for data entry-- would make choosing "against which day" (vs assuming "today") and "for whom" (vs assuming "the current logged in user") the hours should be recorded quite challenging, from a programming and user interface perspective.
Given that, if your main objective is to make it easier for people to record their hours in real time a they do their work, I invite you to consider our Enterprise Stopwatch solution, which we created for precisely that purpose.
