Fiscal Year project reporting

There must be a very easy way to track and report project financials that go across multiple years e.g. 2018 to 2020 project.

How does Workfront cater for this very important function that every project requires?

Have you looked at reports on the Project (Financial Data) object? Grouping on the allocation date may give you the information you're looking for.
