Adobe Target - Updating setCustomerID implementation

Avatar

Level 3

Hi

Currently I have the setCustomerId used to pass Customer ID (user login id) to Adobe Target, because of which Target experiences are different for a first time user & a logged in user. Similar to the example given here - https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/target/using/audiences/visitor-profiles/3rd-party-id.html?la...

I'm looking to update this implementation so that mbox3rdPartyId is equivalent to the ECID or some other method where ECID is prioritised over the Declared ID(i.e. login id), which would lead to more consistent experiences for users within the same session. What are the different methods of doing that?

I know it's not recommended to change a mbox3rdPartyId setup so what would be some implications of this? Looking to understand so I have a full picture before making the change

Thanks

When you say "which would lead to more consistent experiences for users within the same session", could you give some specific examples?

Using mbox3rdPartyId should be having the opposite effect of what you're describing i.e., it should result in more consistent, richer experiences; either by being able to identify the same person across multiple devices or by giving the opportunity to design experiences based on offline data sources (via Customer Attributes enrichment) not just online behavioural data
