Rendering in cs4

When I drop a video in to the time line it immediately requires rendering. Why is this? In

previous versions I dropped the video in and it only needed rendering if it was changed in some way (eg an effect

added). It was recorded in HD size 1920 x 1080. Is this anything to do with it?
