Editing Protected office Documents stored on Sharepoint or network drive

When opening a .docx file that has been protected with a policy users that have edit priveldges are unbale to edit unless the document is stored locally on their machine.  When trying to edit from a network drive or sharepoint you get the following error.

"The Version of Adobe Livecycle Rights Management Extnesion for Microsoft Office is designed to operate on local files.  The protected document has been opened with only limited permissions because it was opened from a remote location. Please reopen the file after copying it to a local disk."

Is it possible to edit a protected document stored on remote location (network drive)

Any help is much appreciated.
