My form needs a dropdown list and be able to add and save new records

I have a SQL Server 2K5 table that has an auto-incrementing field. I have a dropdown list that works wonderfully with it. I can alter existing records and save them fine. But I can't add a new record. From what I've read I have to leave the auto-incrementing field out of the query for it save new records. I've done that and it's true. However my drop-down list does not work (properly or at all). I need my form however to be able to do both. So is there a way to do so?

I'm working with Adobe Designer 7.0, XP, and SQL Server 2K5.
