how do I format a dynamic form in to auto-fill future fields from a user-filled field earlier in the document? what fields/options/preferences should i be paying attention to to make this work?

This simplest way is to use the "Global" binding option in the Default Binding box on the Object palette.



Any fields that have the same name will then contain the same data.



You can get trickier with scripting if you need to.
