Where can we put custom oak:QueryIndexDefinition's?

We are ending up with quite a few custom oak:QueryIndexDefinitions for our application.

Up until now they were kept under the /oak:index node, however going forward we would like to keep them separate from the oak:index node.

Is it a good idea?

What needs to be done to store custom indexes separetely?
