Can someone explain me the concept of renditions and events in CQ5

Not sure which context you are asking this. In general 

An rendition defines the dimensions that are used to display differently sized versions of an image on different pages in a site based on the same source image. 

Events let you know when specific thing happens. Ex:-  Node addition, deletion, etc...
