Sounds like a bug. Open a ticket with support so they are aware of this issue.

Have you added any WCMMode conditions (like if (typeof wcmmode != "undefined" && wcmmode.isEdit()) or any) ?

I also tried this in AEM 6.2, but i am not able to reproduce this behavior, see:-
