The people of New South Wales, Australia have been through a lot in the past year. Bushfires swept through the region in November 2019, then flooding caused more devastation, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. Though schools are now open, there were several weeks when kids stayed at home and families were waiting for further guidance.
As circumstances unfolded day to day, the NSW Department of Education was well-positioned to keep its communities informed. That’s because the organisation had spent the past few years establishing a digital experience platform to centralise and coordinate content across its public website, intranet, and 2,200 school sites.
“We adopted Adobe Experience Manager so we could deliver content in the right context at the right time, which is important even in normal circumstances,” says Peter Buckmaster, Director of Digital Experience Design at the NSW Department of Education. “The bushfires, floods, and COVID-19 provided real-world tests of our ability keep people informed under crisis conditions—rapidly and on a large scale.”
