Is it Possible to Use On-Premise AEM Dynamic Media Without Scene7?

Avatar

Hello,

We are currently using Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) on-premise with Dynamic Media publishing assets to Scene7. Is it possible to stop publishing to Scene7, while still utilizing the other features that Dynamic Media provides within AEM? If so, what configurations/workflows/launchers should be disabled?

Any guidance or documentation would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @SifangCh ,

Yes, you can stop sending assets to Scene7 and still use Dynamic Media features in AEM on-premise.

To do this, you need to:

  • Turn off the Scene7 cloud setup in AEM.

  • Disable the Scene7 replication agent so nothing gets pushed to Scene7.

  • Stop the Scene7-related workflows that run when you upload or change assets.

  • Turn off the launchers that trigger those workflows.

Once that’s done, AEM will still let you use image profiles, smart crops, and renditions—all handled locally without depending on Scene7.

Thanks & Regards,

Vishal

Hi @SifangCh ,

Dynamic Media in Scene7 mode automatically syncs assets from AEM to Scene7 for processing and delivery. This is triggered by specific configurations and workflows tied to the dynamicmedia_scene7 runmode.

1. Remove dynamicmedia_scene7 runmode:

  • Stop AEM Author.
  • Restart AEM without the dynamicmedia_scene7 runmode:

2. Disable Scene7 Cloud Configuration:

  • Go to Tools > Cloud Services > Dynamic Media Configuration.
  • Remove or deactivate the Scene7 cloud config from your sites/assets.

3. Disable Scene7-related Workflows:

  1. In Workflow Models, disable:
    Scene7 DAM Update Asset
    Scene7 Ingestion Workflow
  2. Also check Launchers under /etc/workflow/launchers and disable those triggering Scene7 workflows.

4. Retain Local Dynamic Media Features:

  • You can still use image presets, smart crop, video encoding, and viewer presets locally within AEM.

Also, if you can tell, which specific features that you want to use inside AEM without DM, then I can suggest you something more.

Dynamic Media features comes with DM related run modes either legacy run mode or hybrid runmode.

Legacy scene7 runmode sync assets to scene7 system and enables features in aem.

Hybrid runmode enables aem itself as a DM system without scene7.
