Images not loading correctly after uploading in DAM

After we upload an image to the DAM in AEM, the thumbnail image doesn't appear and the custom metadata doesn't show after clicking on properties. The content author has to refresh the browser page for these details to appear. We're on AEM 6.5.21. (AMS)

Hi,

Are you saying that the DAM thumbnail and metadata only appear after refreshing the page? This seems like expected behavior if the asset has not been fully processed. When you first load the DAM page, if the asset hasn't finished processing, you won’t see the thumbnail or metadata. Once the asset is fully processed, refreshing the page will display the details.

To verify this, you can upload an asset but avoid opening the asset folder immediately. Instead, check via CRX/de to see when the asset is fully processed, then open the DAM folder. In this case, you should see all the asset details immediately. If this is confirmed, it suggests that authors need to understand that the asset is not fully processed yet and should wait a bit longer. Therefore, the need to refresh the page in this scenario is expected.

Hope this helps

After more investigation, it appears to be happening because we're including the "Smart Tags Asset Process" workflow step to the "DAM Update Asset" workflow. This step is adding a few seconds of processing time as each image is being tagged with smart tags. Is there a way to check in the workflow to confirm when the "Smart Tags Asset Process" step is complete and then refresh the image status?

@stiegjo22  consider custom workflow using exiting model and think about enabling notification when workflow completed
